Men’s Issues

Regardless of what society says, being a man in a modern, liberal society is challenging. The past few decades have focused on women’s empowerment and that is a very positive development. But this has resulted in men having to adapt to a rapidly changing social and gender dynamic, while still receiving more or less the same message from society that men used to receive back in the 1950s.

Also, men have been traditionally conditioned to bottle up their feelings and they have to constantly prove their manhood, starting from the schoolyard, all the way up to the corporate boardroom. Asking for help can result in points being deducted from perceived manhood.

With all this pressure building up, we are observing more and more men grappling with confusion around their masculinity, love, sex and relationships. For some men, this results in acts of violence. For others, it manifests as the passive and indecisive “Mr. Nice Guy”. Both have disconnected from the embodiment of healthy masculinity.

We at HHC applaud you for taking this step to reach out for help. It can be extremely beneficial at this point, to work with a male holistic psychotherapist who has been through what you are going through.
